Meet the Trainees: Harriet Serpis
I wanted to train with a firm that was big enough to provide exciting and varied work for trainees, but at the same time was small enough so that trainees could make a genuine difference to the firm. Being a trainee solicitor at TSP provides you with the opportunity to do just that.
My first seat has been in the Dispute Resolution department and I have been given a variety of challenging and exciting work. I have had the opportunity to attend a number of hearings, including two at the High Court. I have attended counsel conferences, drafted documents and have had a lot of contact with clients. I am now reaching the end of my first seat and cannot wait to build on my experiences so far in Employment, which is my next department.
There is a reason why the TSP Training Contract is award winning; trainees are supported and nurtured right from the beginning. The open door policy and one on one supervision encourages us to speak up if we need help and say if there is work we would like to be involved in. Everyone in the firm goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The work life balance is great and trainees are encouraged to become involved socially with the firm - the first year trainees are given the responsibility of organising one of the firm’s biggest social events – a charity quiz night.
I feel very fortunate that I am working for such a well respected and dynamic firm and I know that I made the right choice in applying to TSP.
