  • Overview

We acted for the Claimant in a multi-party claim against the managing company of a converted manor house of which our client’s property forms a substantial part and the insurer who had provided a policy covering major structural defects in the conversion works.

We were appointed in place of a previous firm of solicitors who had to cease acting as they had failed to issue court proceedings within the relevant limitation period and, it transpired, had given negligent advice in relation to the level of entitlement of our client to claim alternative accommodation, which had resulted in him incurring large irrecoverable costs.

Matters in the underlying claim settled on very favourable terms following a mediation, following which we dealt with the follow on claim against the former solicitors’ insurers, which also settled on favourable terms following a without prejudice negotiation meeting.
