Contacting the Charity Commission

The Charity Commission has three offices situated in London, Liverpool and Taunton and each is responsible for different aspects of the Commission's work. For example all new registrations
are dealt with at the Taunton office but the person responsible for looking after an existing charity's affairs can be based at any of the three offices depending on its size or location. This could make it difficult to know which office to contact and much time can be wasted when letters or telephone calls are directed to the wrong one. Now all communications, letters, faxes, emails and telephone can be made to a single reception centre, Charity Commission Direct. The staff there will redirect written and electronic mail, transfer telephone callers to the individual they wish to speak to, answer many straightforward inquiries and give general advice and guidance. The new arrangements should speed up contact with the Commission and avoid many frustrating delays. One possible defect in the new system is that individual officers cannot now be contacted on a direct line but only through the reception centre but this may be a small price to pay for a simpler and quicker service. The new contact details are Charity Commission Direct, PO Box 1227, Liverpool, L69 3UG (telephone 0845 3000 218, email enquiries@charitycommission.gov.uk
