Ain’t no mountain high enough to stop lawyers supporting local charities
19/08/2010
Six lawyers from Thomson Snell & Passmore completed the three peaks challenge on August 19 2010 to raise funds and support three very noteworthy local charities – The Pickering Cancer Drop in Centre, Hospice in the Weald and EllenorLions Hospices.
The team who took part in the challenge was Nadia Omar, Ben Stepney, Joel Kelly, James Cahan, Rosie Bennett and Susanna Gilmartin. The team raised just under £3000 for the charities which is added to more than £13,800 already raised by the firm for charities this year.
The National Three Peaks Challenge is a mountain-endurance challenge in Great Britain, in which participants attempt to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within a 24 hour period. The mountains climbed, in order of elevation, are Ben Nevis in Scotland at 4,409 feet, Snowdon in Wales at 3,560 feet and Scafell Pike in England at 3,209 feet.
The Pickering Cancer Drop in Centre is based in Tunbridge Wells and was established by a group of cancer patients, who started the centre to give anyone, touched by cancer somewhere to go to talk to others in a similar situation. The centre also offers a wide range of complementary therapies, such as reflexology, reiki, healing and massage; also nutritional advice, yoga and counselling free of charge.
Based in Pembury in Kent, Hospice in the Weald provide specialist palliative care advice and clinical support for people with life limiting illness, their family and the bereaved. The hospice serves a community of approximately 300,000 over an area of 400 square miles of West Kent and East Sussex.
EllenorLions Hospices are based in Northfleet and care for around 2,500 families every year. The hospice provides care for adults and young people (14 years plus) with cancer and other progressive, life threatening illnesses. They also offer care at home and day services which aim to improve the quality of life for patients and give ongoing support to families.
Thomson Snell & Passmore Senior Partner James Partridge said:
“The Three Peaks Challenge is a fun, albeit exhausting, way to raise money for these very deserving local charities. The Pickering Cancer Drop in Centre, Hospice in the Weald and EllenorLions Hospices do vitally important work in caring and supporting those people who suffer from progressive and life threatening illnesses and their families. They provide a vital lifeline to many people and deserve all the support they receive.”
