Thomson Snell & Passmore host annual Brain Injury lecture
30/06/2009
Thomson Snell & Passmore announces the success of its annual Brain Injury lecture on memory rehabilitation held at the Spa Hotel, Mount Ephraim, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
The event examined memory rehabilitation for the past, present and future, following incidents of brain-injury. Guest speaker, Professor Barbara A Wilson OBE, Senior Scientist at the Medical Research Council Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit of Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, gave the presentation on holistic approaches to brain injury rehabilitation.
Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist in 1977, Professor Wilson has dedicated herself to brain injury rehabilitation, both in clinical practice and clinical research. She has won a number of awards from scientific and professional bodies, including the British Psychological Society Lifetime Achievement Award for 2008 and is considered to have revolutionised the psychology of neuro-rehabilitation.
Professor Wilson was asked by attendees at the event about the difficulty of those who have suffered a brain injury returning to work. She explained that employers must work with the employee, using specific techniques, to help that person back into the workplace. Thomson Snell & Passmore's Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury team is dedicated to working to help those who have been severely injured and is recognised as a leading practice in the South East. The team includes four lawyers – Partner Jonathan Clement, Partner Fiona Mills, Partner Patricia Fearnley and Consultant Andrew Watson – who are recognised by the legal profession as leaders in their field.
The firm is a founding member of the Kent Acquired Brain Injury Forum and are accredited specialists of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. The team are also members of Action against Medical Accidents, the Solicitors Regulation Authority Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Panels, the Headway Solicitors Panel, and the Child Brain Injury Trust.
Thomson Snell & Passmore Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury Partner Jonathan Clement, chair of the event, said:
“We are very fortunate to have such an eminent guest speaker as Professor Barbara Wilson OBE. She is undeniably the leader in her field, both academically and clinically. Having won numerous awards, she was the perfect guest for the subject and undoubtedly the reason why such a huge number of people attended. I was particularly pleased to see at the event the full range of people involved in the care for those who have suffered brain injuries – from Neuro-surgeons to care workers and lawyers to nurses –and taking away valuable advice and information.”
