Lorna has practised personal injury law since qualifying as a solicitor in 2007. Lorna is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), she has obtained individual APIL accreditation at Litigator level and is a legal adviser to a local Citizens Advice Bureau. Lorna is also a member of the local Headway group.
Lorna runs her own caseload dealing with a variety of personal injury cases including: road traffic accidents, accidents at work, slipping and tripping accidents, product liability and occupiers' liability claims. She has also assisted on a number of high value claims, including major head injury cases.
Notable cases
- Acting for a school pupil who was injured by a window in his school building. The window closed without warning, due to lack of proper maintenance, resulting in a head injury and vestibular damage.
- Representing a number of clients who have tripped over large potholes in pavements in the local area including one lady who fractured her wrist and sustained whiplash injuries.
- Settling a claim for a lady who was injured at a DIY store after some boxed items fell from a high shelving unit causing injury to her head, face and neck.
- Acting for a former soldier in a case against the Ministry of Defence; he was run over by a fellow serviceman driving an Army vehicle on Army barracks.
- Securing a settlement for a man who broke a tooth after biting on a hard piece of liquorice that had been sold to him as a soft liquorice product.
- Representing a man who was injured at work by a large security gate that fell over, crushing his hand.
Profile
Lorna graduated with a degree in English and History (Joint Honours) from the University of Wales, Bangor in 1997. After working in a support role for various law firms in London and Tunbridge Wells she realised the profession was for her so commenced training to become a solicitor in 2001. Lorna studied the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course on a part time basis whilst working at a large law firm in London.
Lorna started her training contract at Thomson, Snell & Passmore in September 2005 where she spent the first six months in the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence team and developed a keen interest in this area of law.
Outside work Lorna enjoys some active leisure pursuits, including hiking up mountains, recently managing to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. She is also a member of a local running club and has taken part in numerous road races, completing the London Marathon in 2008 and 2009.
