Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a cancer which is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos.
It affects the membrane which lines the cavities of the chest and abdomen that surround the heart, lung and intestines. Mesothelioma most often occurs on the lining of the lung known as the pleura.
Pleural mesothelioma causes the pleura to thicken, reducing the lungs' ability to expand fully resulting in a feeling of breathlessness.
If you or one of your loved ones has suffered mesothelioma then you will be entitled to certain state benefits and possibly also, depending on the circumstances, compensation through the courts.
Surviving family members such as a wife, partner or children of a mesothelioma sufferer can also take legal action to claim compensation.
