Mediation

Mediation is a voluntary process where couples are helped to discuss important issues safely in a neutral environment with an independent third party (the mediator).

Mediators are trained to act impartially and do not seek to apportion blame. Mediation is not marriage guidance nor couple counselling.

Mediation can provide real benefits in appropriate cases. It reduces tension and hostility and helps couples make their own informed decisions about their futures. Mediation plays an important role in assisting families to address and resolve the issues which arise from separation and divorce.

Parties are free to take legal advice at the same time as the mediation process, although their legal advisers do not attend the mediation sessions with them.

We will discuss with you at your initial consultation whether your case is appropriate for mediation and we can provide you with details of a number of local mediators. If you and your partner or spouse decide to attend mediation we can make a referral on your behalf.

If you are dealing with financial matters arising from a divorce or separation and are able to reach an agreement through mediation we can draft the necessary paperwork to convert your agreement into a legally binding document.
