ADULT & CHILD BRAIN INJURY

In the United Kingdom alone approximately 1 million people a year attend hospital as a result of a head injury. In a high proportion of these cases a traumatic brain injury will have resulted with the symptoms being permanent and unique to each and every individual concerned including problems with memory, concentration, speech, mobility and personality or behavioural changes.

As the long term impact of head injuries is complex and requires input from a range of specialist medics, it is essential that a solicitor with considerable knowledge and experience in these complex matters is instructed not only to secure compensation but also to ensure that both treatment and rehabilitation are thoroughly considered.

Our team has many years experience and specialist knowledge dealing with both adult and child brain injury cases.

We actively support both Headway (the national charity for adults with brain injury) and The Child Brain Injury Trust (CBIT) and continue to develop our skills and knowledge through our involvement with these organisations.

We are founder members of the Kent Acquired Brain Injury Forum (KABIF) – www.kabif.org.uk

ACCIDENTS AT WORK

Health and Safety in the workplace should be of paramount importance for all employers. However, despite a vast amount of health and safety legislation and regulations being in place many employers still fail to ensure the safety of their employees and injuries at work are common.

The regulations surrounding the safety requirements for the workplace are vast and complex. We have a wealth of experience in this area including claims involving inadequate training, defective equipment, manual handling, unsafe systems of work and those where accidents are the result of unqualified or negligent colleagues.

If you have been injured at work or are unsure whether you can pursue a claim contact us for further advice.

ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

Every day hundreds of people are injured or killed on the UK’s roads. Those injured are not limited to drivers but can include passengers, pedestrians and cyclists.

The law has imposed a high duty of care on drivers to reflect the fact that a motor vehicle is a potentially dangerous weapon.  In the case of Eagle v Chambers in 2003 the Court of Appeal stated that it would be rare for a pedestrian to be found more responsible for an accident than a driver.

The injuries sustained in road traffic accidents can be extremely serious and involve multiple life changing injuries. For this reason you need to choose a lawyer experienced in approaching these types of claims to ensure that every aspect of your injuries and their impact on your daily life is considered and accounted for in your compensation.

FATAL ACCIDENTS AND INQUESTS

Unfortunately some accidents can result in the death of the victim. In these circumstances we offer caring and sympathetic advice and assistance to the loved ones left behind.

This assistance could range from simply representing the family at the inquest to establish what caused the death, or to assist with a claim on behalf of the family for the loss of their loved one, the loss of income that person would have provided and funeral expenses.

ACCIDENTS IN PUBLIC PLACES

We act for people who have been injured in a variety of public places. Such accidents could involve falling objects or slips and trips in public areas such as playgrounds, leisure centres, car parks, supermarkets, schools, or on defective pavements. We appreciate that these accidents can result in serious injuries.

The law surrounding places that are open to the public is complex and can vary depending on the organisation who has control of the area for example different law applies to local authorities for maintaining the pavements to a supermarket car park.

Specialist advice is needed out the outset to asses whether a claim should be pursued. We will not encourage you to pursue a spurious claim.

SPORTS INJURY CLAIMS

Many people pursue hobbies involving sport. Whilst some injuries sustained whilst playing a sport are sometimes just accidents, some injuries can be caused by the negligence of another player, the referee or by sports equipment being defective or not properly maintained.

This area of the law is highly complex and can involve difficult issues, particularly in relation to understanding the surrounding events leading up to the injury and properly assessing whether there is a claim to pursue.  If you have been injured whilst playing sport and feel that it was not just an unfortunate accident or normal sporting injury contact our specialist team for further advice.
