Advising on various family trusts whilst administrating a couple’s estate

Following the death of a Husband and Wife, Simon was instructed by the family to advise on their estates, which left Will trusts, and other estate trusts. The estate had a value of around £3.5 – £4 million.

Simon dealt with the continuing administration of the estate, including agreeing the tax position with HMRC. Simon was able to advise on the availability of agricultural relief which resulted in no tax being payable on the estates.

Simon considered the actions required relating to the Will Trusts left by the deceased Husband and Wife. He dealt with trust matters such as distributions to avoid exit charges and dealing with the family business and the debts due to it from the estate. Simon acted as a point of contact for the family and provided detailed advice relating to the future of the Estate and ongoing trusts.

Simon drew on assistance from Sue Lister in our Commercial Property team and worked with a rural consultancy expert, the land agents and family accountants.

Thomson, Snell and Passmore has a wealth of experience dealing with complicated family trusts and is able to provide advice on options available for clients.
