Hair removal treatment inflicts permanent scars

Our team of specialist personal injury lawyers based at Thomson Snell & Passmore’s Tunbridge Wells and Dartford (Thames Gateway) Offices, has secured compensation for a woman who was permanently scarred by pulsed light treatment to remove hair from her body.

The claimant paid for intense pulsed light treatment with a beauty therapist. This is a treatment to remove hair on a permanent basis. The treatments are done over a number of sessions.

During one session the claimant highlighted that it felt more painful than before, however, the therapist continued with the treatment. The claimant was left with burns that had blistered and were weeping. The burns spread across all the parts of her body that had been treated including her armpits, upper thighs and stomach. Although the burns healed, the claimant has areas where she has lost the pigmentation in her skin. Therefore, the areas that were damaged now appear lighter than the rest of her skin.

We are seeing an increase in enquiries about injuries following beauty therapy treatments. We would strongly advise members of the public to ensure that those providing them with treatment are fully qualified and have regular training to minimise the risk of being injured.
