On 9 April 2019, the General Affairs Council had opted the proposed regulation amending Council Regulation (EC) 539/2001.
This amendment allows third country nationals, which, depending on how the next few months go may include the UK, to enter the EU for business or leisure trips up to 90 days in any 180 day period without the need for a visa.
This visa waiver will be granted, provided the UK also grants the equivalent access to EU citizens, once it becomes a third country. The regulation will apply to all EU member states (except Ireland) and in the Schengen associated countries (Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland).
