Guy Hollamby, Partner at Thomson Snell & Passmore talks about his career and achievements leading one of the largest and most experienced residential property teams in the South East.
Established in 1570! Can it be possible? In the case of Thomson Snell & Passmore it is. When I first joined the firm in 1983, the first document I was given to read was the firm’s history: ‘The First Four Hundred Years’.
In those pre-internet days this was not a fact that I had been aware of prior to my interview. Although born in East Africa, I had come from a school in Sevenoaks that traced its own history back to very small beginnings in 1432. There was a pleasing symmetry to be joining a firm like Thomson Snell & Passmore with similar small and historic beginnings that had subsequently grown into an institution of which one could be really proud.
Dare I say it, but I have been with the firm for 31 years. When I first joined we were a multi-office firm based in Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Cranbrook and Ashford, and latterly at Maidstone and Sevenoaks.
Within a year of joining I had opened our Sevenoaks office. For me it was a dream come true to grow the practice in a new area where I had a lot of contacts, particularly from my local knowledge, family connections and from playing sport. As Chairman of Sevenoaks Vine Cricket Club for 20 years I added another historical connection to my CV helping the Club celebrate its 250th anniversary in 1984 – the same year as opening the office.
Why these ramblings, you ask?
