It is coming to that time of year again when both the tribunal awards and statutory payments are reconsidered and usually increased in line with the Retail Prices Index. Below we have set out some of the main increases:
- The minimum basic award for certain unfair dismissals (for reasons of trade union membership or activities, health and safety duties, pension scheme trustee duties of acting as an employee or workforce representative) will increase from £6,203 to £6,408.
- The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal will increase from £83,682 to £86,444.
- A statutory week’s pay will increase from £508 to £525. The statutory week’s pay is used for calculations for statutory redundancy payments, basic and additional awards on unfair dismissal awards.
The increased figures will only apply where the effective date of termination falls on or after 6 April 2019.
Our thoughts
The compensation payable by an employer for losing a claim continues to rise.
