Kate Turnham

Kate is an experienced Real Estate partner who specialises in residential development, working closely with Sarah Easton, the Head of the Residential Development team. She has more than 25 years’ experience in real estate and 10 years’ experience in development.

Kate routinely undertakes complex land acquisitions and sales between multiple parties, including trustees, deputies and charities for both developers and landowners both within and outside Kent. She also deals with the majority of the infrastructure agreements for the Residential Development team on behalf of multiple clients. Kate routinely deals with the final sale of the completed dwellings following development.

Prior to starting at Thomson Snell & Passmore, Kate headed the Property team for Mid Kent Legal Services, the legal services partnership for Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and Swale Borough Councils and has a good understanding of the needs of Local Authorities in relation to Property and Planning matters.

Kate worked as a tutor on the Advanced Commercial Property Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School between 2007 and 2009.

Examples of work

We acted for a charity entering into a promotion agreement with a promoter for c.100 houses

We acted for land owners who had been approached by a developer to enter into an option agreement for a large housing development.

We acted for a client on the acquisition of land forming part of a much larger site

Acquisition of a site for up to 87 new residential dwellings with associated infrastructure

Achievements & other appointments

Kate was named in The Legal 500 in 2020. Kate is also a trustee of the Development Trust for Maidstone Grammar School for Girls.

 

Education

Kate studied Economic and Social History at Leicester University before taking the Common Professional Examination in 1993.

Kate went on to quality as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1997 before passing the Legal Practice Course (with Commendation) at BPP Law School and being admitted as a solicitor in September 2001.

She joined Thomson Snell & Passmore in 2017 and became a partner in 2019.
