I am three months in to my first seat, and have found the team to be incredibly welcoming and always willing to take the time to explain how things are done. The work is challenging, varied and interesting. I am able to ask my team if there are certain pieces of work I would be keen to do more of and the team  are always quick to accommodate this. I am consistently exposed to high levels of client contact, even running two client matters of my own from start to finish (with supervision).  The firm offers trainees training sessions on IT systems, compliance, legal documents, legal technology, presenting and managing meetings (to name a few!) which has meant that I have always felt confident using the firm software and tackling new work. I am three months in to my first seat, and have found the team to be incredibly welcoming and always willing to take the time to explain how things are done. From day one my supervisor has pushed and supported me to get the most I possibly can from the Department. I have worked directly for partners very early on and have been able to gain valuable exposure to a variety of work for clients which was great for building my skills and experience. In terms of the culture, there’s a strong team atmosphere with loads of opportunities to get involved in social events in and around the firm

Graduate Trainee

Thomson Snell & Passmore has been a fantastic place to start my legal career. The people are lovely and supportive, the work is varied and exciting, and there is a great level of responsibility bestowed upon you from your first week. Despite Covid restrictions, the firm has effective processes in place, allowing us to come to the office on occasion, and work from home without problem. There is a very sociable culture and I have already built many great relationships with fellow trainees and colleagues throughout Thomson Snell & Passmore. I am looking forward to continuing my development at the firm.

Graduate Trainee

I joined Thomson Snell & Passmore as a Trainee Solicitor in March 2021 and am currently undertaking a seat in the firm’s Court of Protection Department. Despite having to navigate the start of my training Contract in the middle of a global pandemic (and having to work from home the majority of the time) there has never been a stage where I have not felt fully supported by my colleagues. The firm goes above and beyond to accommodate their trainees’ seat preferences and I was delighted to be allocated all four of my training Contract seat choices. Thomson Snell & Passmore has a friendly, inclusive culture where trainees receive both a high degree of responsibility early on and also a good level of support and guidance; the firm has a close collegial atmosphere and places a strong emphasis on the development of younger members of the firm. Everyone at the firm is extremely approachable and willing to help Trainee Solicitors with any type of questions. My time at Thomson Snell & Passmore has flown by and I am very much looking forward to starting my second seat in the Property Litigation Team in September 2021.

I have really enjoyed the level of responsibility I have had throughout my training. I have been lucky enough to see cases through from start to finish and have been heavily involved at all levels. A particular highlight involved a high-value inheritance dispute which was the first of its kind, raising  legal issues which had not been litigated before. I attended a full day mediation with my supervising partner and was able to see settlement of the claim. It has been really encouraging to be integrated into client matters from an early point, and with a wide range of exposure

Graduate Trainee

Since starting my Training Contract at Thomson Snell & Passmore I have been warmly received by the firm and accepted as one of the team. Supervisors provide trainees with advice and guidance where required but also trust and responsibility to get the job done. My experience so far has been excellent and I am looking forward to the next stages

At Thomson Snell & Passmore, I have the kind of support that allows me to deliver my best to clients. You are part of the opportunity.

Thomson Snell & Passmore gives you variety, choice and the opportunity to shine

As a trainee with the firm I had the unrivalled experience of early client contact and real involvement in fee-earners’ files. Trainees are made to feel a key part of each team they spend time in. The amount you learn in a short space of time is phenomenal.

I wanted to train in a firm with a breadth of recognised expertise, to gain experience across a variety of Private Client and Commercial practices. Training at Thomson Snell & Passmore gave me the opportunity to explore different practice areas and determine where I wanted to establish my career. The firm aims to retain its trainees, and I was delighted to be offered a position in my chosen specialism upon qualification and join a reputable and well respected team

Graduate Trainee

I trained here and the opportunities are excellent. If you prove yourself, the firm will work with you to expand and develop your chosen business area helping you build a successful practice

Joining Thomson Snell & Passmore has been exciting, rewarding and interesting. No two days are the same and you feel part of the team on your first day. I know I am fortunate to be able to say that I enjoy coming to work every morning.

Graduate Trainee

I have learnt something new every day at Thomson Snell & Passmore - being exposed to a wide variety of legal work from the outset has been something I have found to be really helpful to my development as a professional and has helped me develop skills in client care, advocacy and commercial awareness for instance. I have also found the atmosphere within the office to be really friendly and the open culture of the firm has helped me approach other members of staff with questions and queries with ease and thus facilitate my learning

Graduate Trainee

I joined Thomson Snell & Passmore as a Trainee in March 2021. Thomson Snell & Passmore is made up with some of the friendliest and most supportive people. Of course, no training contract is easy and it can be intimidating, but the support network available in the firm is outstanding and it has made my training experience nothing but positive. The training contract at Thomson Snell & Passmore is very hands-on; you are really encouraged – from the beginning – to make client calls, draft documents and to see matters progress from start to finish; I certainly felt very involved from the outset. You are supported throughout by a training supervisor who is there to answer any questions, provide feedback and to be a point of contact in each seat. I have personally built a strong working relationship with my supervisor and her help and guidance has become invaluable. If you are looking for a firm with outstanding training, a friendly and welcoming environment and where people love their work then Thomson Snell & Passmore is definitely the right place. I am really looking forward to the rest of my training and my future with the firm.

A highlight of my training contract has been the direct contact that I have had with clients. In particular, I have enjoyed providing advice and adapting the legal theory to meet the client’s objectives

Graduate Trainee

With a training contract at Thomson Snell & Passmore, trainees are afforded client contact and responsibility from the outset. A highlight of my training to date has been my attendances at court to support our client in their application for a Child Arrangements Order. In a complex case spanning across a number of hearings, it was an invaluable experience to have this ongoing role and to be able to build a rapport with our client and Counsel. I very much felt a valued member of our ‘team’ and able to make real contributions that translated into practice. It was especially rewarding for my input to be reflected in Counsel’s submissions. Experiences such as these are what set Thomson Snell & Passmore’s training apart, and are crucial exposure to take forwards into qualification

Graduate Trainee

I am currently in the Corporate & Commercial Department as the third Seat of my Training Contract, following time in the Commercial Property and Dispute Resolution Departments. A recent highlight of my Training Contract was being involved with a new corporate matter at the beginning of this Seat, for which I was the main point of contact with the client. This enabled me to practice liaising with clients in the new age of Teams virtual meetings, whilst also presenting the opportunity to gain familiarity with drafting and advising on many “bread-and-butter” corporate documents such as statutory registers, board minutes, written resolutions, stock transfer forms and share certificates. This served as an excellent foundation to get involved with a variety of matters across the Department which include regularly liaising with clients and drafting more complicated documents

Graduate Trainee

A highlight of my TC has been taking the lead on a debt recovery dispute and having responsibility for the day-to-day management of the matter. This involved having extensive calls with the client to discuss the available options and strategy along with the corresponding scopes of work and fee estimates for those options. I was able to give clear, concise and practical advice to the client which took into account their legal position as well as any commercial considerations

Graduate Trainee

The highlight of my training contract to date has been the extensive client contact I have had since day 1. In particular, whilst working in the employment department I took the lead on multiple client calls advising them on the terms of a settlement agreement offered to them by their employers. Following the call I would lead the negotiations with the employer on our clients behalf. Running many of these matters during my time in the department greatly helped with my development, and was incredibly satisfying achieving a successful outcome for our client

Graduate Trainee

Whilst undertaking my Training Contract at Thomson Snell & Passmore I have been exposed to a multitude of experiences and opportunities. Despite the turbulence of the past year, I have had more exposure than ever to virtual hearings, conferences (particularly with Counsel), committees and client meetings on a regular basis. So far, I have undertaken two litigious and one non-litigious seat and have had exposure to various matters ranging from high-end residential property transactional work to advanced property and planning disputes. A particular example of a matter which I have recently been involved with were instructions from a high net worth client who wanted us to challenge a decision of the Local Authority Planning Inspector whom, on appeal, had rejected our client’s planning application to extend his business premises and provide on-site residential accommodation. Following various meetings with the client to discuss the best strategy, my supervisor, Counsel and I, agreed to submit a claim in the High Court for permission to apply for Planning Statutory Review under section 288 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. Our claim was based on three distinct grounds; one of which the High Court Judge granted permission to proceed to Judicial Review. As a result, and given the strength in our pleadings, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government conceded and agreed to quash the appeal decision of the Planning Inspector and pay our client’s costs. This was, of course, an extremely successful result and a rewarding experience to have been a part of overall. I have no doubt that my training at Thomson Snell & Passmore has equipped me with an abundance of interpersonal and professional skills that will serve me well throughout my career
