Supporting a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) when one of their school’s received a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) from a learner’s parents

A learner was involved in an incident at School, and following this, the parents made complaints to the ICO and served a DSAR. Both the Employment and the Dispute Resolution teams worked in partnership to support this client throughout the matter.

The Employment department advised on the response process and the rights of the individual, and organised, prepared and delivered the personal data needed to satisfy the DSAR. Complaints were made to the ICO regarding the DSAR, but the firm satisfied the ICO that no further outcome was necessary. The department subsequently provided advice on the data protection aspects of the MAT’s operation that needed improvement.

The Disputes team provided assistance to the School in regard to other complaints that were made against the School.
