Replacement of previous deputyship at the request of a dissatisfied family

We act for A, who suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of clinical negligence at birth. Their personal injury lawyer had been appointed as their deputy. However, the parents felt that their relationship with the deputy had broken down to such an extent that they were unable to work together any longer. We were approached as a possible replacement deputy. Families’ approaching us in such circumstances seems to be an increasing trend, particularly where there is an existing professional deputy who does not specialise in this field of work.

After meeting with the client and their family, they were confident that our approach was what they were looking for, and we have since worked with them to effect a smooth changeover and to start addressing the client’s needs.
